Photo of Day #12 ~ Yes, This Was Sam the Record Man

This isn't a great photo but this area of Yonge Street makes me kind of sad. It's representative of the end of an era and I guess a symbol of the future. Ryerson is putting a student centre in there and that's great and all but since they bulldozed the building last summer, there's no obvious development and it sits there as a reminder of what it, and music, once was in Toronto. You go down the street to HMV and their game and DVD section dominates the store. To be honest, I'm not even sure what floor the CDs are on anymore. I know I sound like an old crow talking like this but it was different then - better perhaps, more personal definitely (downloading music really isn't much of an experience, is it?) I guess I'm kind of traditional after all (at least when it comes to music stores...)

Photo of Day #11 ~ No photo day

Today was a very busy day. I went back to work and was catching up from missing two days last week. My plan had been to go out for little walks for half of my lunch breaks so I could take pictures and get a little fresh air and exercise. But today I didn't have time for that. I ate my lunch in my office in about 20 minutes and then went back to work. I came home after work, read the Martha Stewart Living magazine that arrived today (I just subscribed. My colleague was doing a fundraiser for her daughter's school so I got suckered into picking something. I don't think I've ever even bought Martha Stewart! Oh well, I digress.) Then I made dinner. Then I went to bootcamp. They kicked my ass. Now I'm really tired.
But here's the thing. I was walking home from class and I felt self-conscious about stopping and taking photos. I don't know why. I've done it before. Why would now be any different? I felt this pressure to produce a photo and although it's snowing and blowing, there was nothing that interesting to capture. I tried some lame attempts just to take a photo but nothing really worked. I guess you can't just fake it. And I don't really want to.
I found it interesting, though, that I felt self-conscious about it.
So I guess that's what I captured today. Even if it wasn't with my camera.

Today I started a new project that I've mentioned here before and been thinking a lot about lately.

I'm organizing and transcribing the diaries. Here's the first one.

It's from 1983.

I've been typing for an hour and I'm not even halfway through the book.

This could take awhile.

(but so far I'm kind of loving it!)

Poor Gnome. You are so battered by the January cold (not to mention the pigeon poop). Surrounded by garbage and rock-hard snow, you will be restored to your former glory when spring returns, just a few months from now. Until then, dear gnome, I feel your pain.

JThere will be a lot of photos like this. I was sick with the flu today and didn't get outside. Both of my cats were sitting in this chair, looking at me and I nonchalantly went and got my camera but they moved before I could capture them. Still, it's kind of a cute photo.

Photo of Day #1 ~ Spooky (New Year) Moon

I'm kind of cheating because I'm going to postdate this post. I did take it on New Year's Day night. It was a really cool moon. It was misty and snowing all evening and then, the moon peeked it's eye out at us...

I took the photo through my living room window but I think the effect is kind of special.

P.S. I don't have any photos from now until day 8. But I'll do my best to keep it up from here on in.
