killer

I just finished watching the end of the series
"The Killing."
If you haven't seen it, you should.
It's kind of depressing
but so good
and Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman
are amazing as the
flawed crime fighting detectives.

I discovered this song
and it got to me
so I'm sharing it with y'all.

Enjoy.

embarrassing bodies

Have you seen Embarrassing Bodies?

It's a show from England where a crew of doctors
encourage people to visit their traveling health clinic
and bring forward their most embarrassing/scary/hideous ailments.

And oh, they do.

And they show it all.
All of the ins and outs, so to speak.
It's quite something.

The thing that amazes me is that the patients go from being completely ashamed of their
rashes / weird growths / fears of STDs, etc.
to bearing it all on (inter)national television!
(Seriously - don't watch this one with the kids.)

Don't get me wrong - I don't think there's anything wrong with it
they are encouraging people to shed their fears and come forward before things get really bad
or to alleviate their worries
and telling them that there is nothing they haven't seen.
Nothing to be ashamed of.
It's all just bodies.
Medicine
and hopefully,
better health.
I just think it's incredible that they describe how embarrassed they are
and then pull it out to have it probed.

Only the British could do this.

You can watch full episodes on YouTube
(if you dare.)

the following

A woman that I work with told me about a show that she's been watching
that she was finding very disturbing and
was actually having some difficulty watching.
Of course, being a lover of
horror,
zombie
scary
shows
my interest was piqued.
It was:

It stars Kevin Bacon,
whom I've had a bit of a weakness for ever since
She's Having a Baby
and
Footloose
and, oh yes
Flatliners

It's about a serial killer
and those who follow him.

it's disturbing, no holds barred kind of stuff.

And since I don't have cable or follow celebrity / entertainment shows
I didn't see ads like this:

and

I'm not sure how long this show can last
but after the last episode, I'm curious to find out.

do guys "get" girls?

I recently finished HBO's Girls.
Have you seen it?

It's brilliant.
Totally cringeworthy, yes,
but also a total flashback for me to the types of things
that I did when I was that age.
Hannah's relationship with Adam was torturous for me to watch.
I dated a guy in my early 20's and I was so enamored of him that I was afraid to get to know him.
Or rather, afraid to let him know me for fear that I wasn't worthy of his attention.
My relationship didn't go the way of Hannah and Adam's
but it went on for longer than it should have
and had I not left my hometown when I did
I am loathe to think of how far it would have gone.

I don't think that guys would "get" this show.
Women sometimes don't make a lot of sense, even, or especially, to themselves.
So it's hard to imagine that guys would understand the motivation behind why these girls do what they do.
The show doesn't explain any of it - it just follows them along the whole bumpy ride.
So I think, in the end,  Girls is for girls.

Anyway - this show was brutally honest and raw and mortifying at times.
And I can't wait for season two.

weekend recap

This weekend I was feeling a little like the weather ~
grey
rainy
windy
(wait - scratch that last one)

I wasn't at my best
( I was out a little past my bedtime on Friday night and I had a few too many cocktails)
so I did what every girl should do in that situation -
embrace some of the seven deadly sins:

Sloth
 and
Gluttony

I watched this:

(I watched, like, all of it. It's that good.)

This guy?
Yes, please.

And I read a little of this:

(no - I'm not 14 but it's a great story!)

And on Sunday, when I was feeling better,
we headed out to Queen St. East
where there are some great record shops and I found this:

My favorite New Order album - Low Life

Bliss.

Overall it was a pretty good weekend
considering it started out a little rough.

Lessons learned?

I'm not as young as I used to be and I can't drink as much as I used to
(especially on an empty stomach.)

Baby showers that take place a jazz clubs are way cooler than ones that involve tea sandwiches and stupid games with bows and paper plates

Everything old is new again.

Happy Monday!

It's a ringer

I don't have cable so I often discover shows long after they've established themselves.

Have you seen Ringer?

I can't say it's profound or even close to, say, Dexter or Mad Men
or even the best acting, to be honest.

But it's pretty good in a hokey, unbelievable kind of way
and the fashions are great.

And I love Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Have done so ever since the Buffy days.

I highly recommend it if you're all caught up on Gossip Girl and looking for some froth.
Isn't that what everyone needs in January?

Please stand by...

I am currently addicted to:

So I'm having a little trouble finding the time to upload pictures and write about all of the goings on in my corner.

Little things coming soon!

(Seriously, though - this show is amazing. I know it started in 2006 which means I'm waaaaay behind but that just means I have more seasons to watch to catch up!)

January 01, 2011

the Walking Dead

and to this as well.

love it.

gruesome
but good.

Although I did have a dream about zombies a couple of weeks ago that was terrifying (and, no doubt, directly related to my watching this show).
In the dream I ended up hiding out in my father's attic.
Dire.

Boardwalk Empire

It's official.

I'm hooked.

Madly in Love

I know that I'm almost always a day late and a dollar short on any trend, especially when it comes to tv, but yesterday I rented this:

Need I say more?

Actually, I will. When I got home today, I saw an ad on Showcase that they are running a Mad Men marathon this weekend. If anyone is looking for me, I'll be the lump on the couch.

UPDATE: CTV has both Season 1 and 2 available for your viewing pleasure online! I'm working my way through season 1 now and am totally rethinking my wardrobe!
