This morning Chester and I were awoken with by the sound of ceramic hitting ceramic.
I think I had been dully aware that Fergus was on his howling rampage as he often is at 5 a.m.
This is a phase I am not enjoying.
He has a special love for a stuffed rat we bought for him years ago at IKEA.
Chester couldn't care less about the rat.
But Fergus, under the cover of darkness, likes to carry the rat around in his mouth and yowl at the same time.
I believe he is saying:
Look what I caught!
It's bigger than my head!
It's bigger than my head!
I'm the rat attacker!
Exhibit A:
(This is an old photo. Since we moved he only shows his love for the rat at night.
Or very, very early morning.)
But this morning was different.
I heard a sound I haven't heard before.
I heard a sound I haven't heard before.
Chester and I both sat up when we heard the crash.
I put on my slippers and headed downstairs, Chester following close on my sheepskin-encased heels.
I went into the kitchen to see my goldfish plant dashed to the floor -
pot in pieces and dirt detrius everywhere.

(I would have taken a picture but it was 5:15 - I was mostly focused on cursing the Fergus and finding the broom.)
On another note, it makes me appreciate our Ergorapido - our little stick vacuum that be bought at Lowe's

It runs on a battery and has a little dustbuster that separates from the rest of the machine.
Unfortunately we now store it in our dining room because it's an old house with few electrical outlets and it's handy to have it so handy. Doesn't do much for the decor, however...but a great deal for $100.
Anyway - the good old Ergo came in handy at 5:25.
Happy Friday!
Tomorrow we head to Port Hope
and to
The Phantom Farm!
Can't wait!
