summer in winter

In anticipation of our upcoming trip south, I picked up these two little beauties:

Please ignore the dress on the right.
It is not part of this story.

You can't even see the details on the dress on the left - which is the one I bought - but I couldn't find any other photos so....

These dresses were a great find.
They were only $39 each (I think. $34 or $39)

Yes - it's the same dress in two fabrics
but it's such a great style and fit

I couldn't resist.

The one on the bottom is navy with red, yellow and white tulips on the skirt.
Sweet.

The top one has butterflies all over it.
lovely.

They'll be great for the trip
and also great for work this summer because they have little cap sleeves.

Bargain!

Both are from...

are you ready?

Old Navy.

Who'd a thunk it?

( I think both are sold out now, sorry.)

If I Had a Million Dollars...

I went shopping at Anthropologie last night.

Big mistake.

Shopping at that store can make you dream big

and kid yourself into thinking that you're shaped like a twig and that you need to buy a tank top made from flimsy cotton that cost $68 because it has one sweet detail that makes it different from any regular old tank top.

how sweet are those ties?
This top is, I admit, slightly reminiscent of a hospital gown
but still adorable.

And this one:

It's a beautiful silk blouse by photographer Sarah Bell.

Georgeous colours
not so gorgeous price tag:
$228

But still.

And then there was:

I actually saw this in the catalogue that I got at home yesterday
and drooled over last night!
Not sure of the Canadian price
(it is, undoubtedly more)
but the US price is
$188

I really love this dress...
How can I make this work?

When I don't have a million dollars?

There are so many other things I saw that I loved
I don't even want to go on.
Sigh....

TOMS ballet flats!

I don't know what it is with shoes today but....
TOMS has introduced ballet flats!

I love my TOMS.
They are super comfortable.
Like slippers, really.

$85-90

Shoes of Prey

I realize that posting about something you read on a daily email blast doesn't exactly ooze originality
but some things are too good not to share.

I subscribe to Vitamin Daily.
Sometimes there are great tips and tidbits
sometimes I dismiss the posts entirely

but this one - this one is noteworthy.

Shoes of Prey is a website
that lets you design your own shoes.

Read the testament:

"When Shoes of Prey commenced some of our girlfriends breathed a sigh of relief and wrote ballads in our honour. These were the girls we knew who have large shoe sizes. Finally, shopping for shoes in drag queen stores could cease, jamming feet into too-tight shoes was over and women with large feet could at last commission shoes to be made in their size!"

You sing it, sister!
This is fantastic!

I don't think people appreciate how hard it is to buy shoes when you wear size 11
(or larger for that matter)

Trends?
Not possible.

Special events?
Torture.

Shoe store sales people who helpfully suggest that you try a smaller size?
(because, really, isn't that problem solving at it's best?)
Unlimited.

Question - How much do the shoes cost?

Funny you should ask.

In the FAQ on their site, the first point is:

How much do the shoes cost?

Our custom made shoes cost $185 for ballet flats;
$240 for 1½ to 3½ inch heels,
$290 for 4 to 4½ inch heels and
$335 for ankle boots:
Not cheap - right?

But for custom made shoes?

Worth every penny.

I just have to start saving my pennies to get something fabulous!

I think this now qualifies as an "If I Had A Million Dollars" post.....
