if i had a million dollars...

Today it's all about Stella and Dot.

Sometimes you can look and look for the perfect piece but it eludes you.
So you go online
and find things that you can't afford.
(I typically don't shop in stores I can't afford. I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment.)

Anyhow,  I ended up on the Stella and Dot site.
I first heard about Stella and Dot when I was watching the Jillian Harrison season of the Bachelorette.
I am not embarrassed to admit that.
The woman has great style and she's Canadian.
That was reason enough to watch an incredibly stupid show.

I have never bought anything from them
their prices are kind of high
and I wondered about the quality.
But today I found two that I think would be worth the splurge:

Bianca Tassel Necklace
$168

Pegasus Necklace
$208

I've added them to my wish list.
I can't bring myself to spend $400 on two necklaces.

But a girl can dream.

if i had a million dollars...

I haven't done one of these posts in a long, long time.
I'd kind of forgotten about them truth be told.

So I've decided to dream big.
And big means diamonds.

These are all from the Birks vintage collection,
which is really my cup of tea what with my love of old stuff and all.

Here we go~

$41,000.00

Art Deco style
$6,000.00

$119,900.00

Aren't they gorgeous?

And this one is my favorite just for it's description.
It's a minaude, which is a little case that held rouge and lipstick.
I guess they would have attached the little chain to a button hole or belt loop to keep it close.
"Please note that Minaude is a french word for a funny face expression related to the way ladies shape their lips into a heart when applying lipsstick"
(Too bad they misspelled lipstick.).

$3,500.00

A girl can dream!
And she should - don't you think?

and just one more....

I'd like a comfy reading chair for the living room.
How luscious is this one?

Correct answer?

very.

It's also approximately $2200.

Hmmm....

If I Had a Million Dollars...

Yes please.

$360 on sale but still...

I need a new trench for spring so how about this one?

burberry, of course.
I don't know how much it is but if I had a million dollars,
it wouldn't matter!

If I Had a Million Dollars...

I went shopping at Anthropologie last night.

Big mistake.

Shopping at that store can make you dream big

and kid yourself into thinking that you're shaped like a twig and that you need to buy a tank top made from flimsy cotton that cost $68 because it has one sweet detail that makes it different from any regular old tank top.

how sweet are those ties?
This top is, I admit, slightly reminiscent of a hospital gown
but still adorable.

And this one:

It's a beautiful silk blouse by photographer Sarah Bell.

Georgeous colours
not so gorgeous price tag:
$228

But still.

And then there was:

I actually saw this in the catalogue that I got at home yesterday
and drooled over last night!
Not sure of the Canadian price
(it is, undoubtedly more)
but the US price is
$188

I really love this dress...
How can I make this work?

When I don't have a million dollars?

There are so many other things I saw that I loved
I don't even want to go on.
Sigh....

Shoes of Prey

I realize that posting about something you read on a daily email blast doesn't exactly ooze originality
but some things are too good not to share.

I subscribe to Vitamin Daily.
Sometimes there are great tips and tidbits
sometimes I dismiss the posts entirely

but this one - this one is noteworthy.

Shoes of Prey is a website
that lets you design your own shoes.

Read the testament:

"When Shoes of Prey commenced some of our girlfriends breathed a sigh of relief and wrote ballads in our honour. These were the girls we knew who have large shoe sizes. Finally, shopping for shoes in drag queen stores could cease, jamming feet into too-tight shoes was over and women with large feet could at last commission shoes to be made in their size!"

You sing it, sister!
This is fantastic!

I don't think people appreciate how hard it is to buy shoes when you wear size 11
(or larger for that matter)

Trends?
Not possible.

Special events?
Torture.

Shoe store sales people who helpfully suggest that you try a smaller size?
(because, really, isn't that problem solving at it's best?)
Unlimited.

Question - How much do the shoes cost?

Funny you should ask.

In the FAQ on their site, the first point is:

How much do the shoes cost?

Our custom made shoes cost $185 for ballet flats;
$240 for 1½ to 3½ inch heels,
$290 for 4 to 4½ inch heels and
$335 for ankle boots:
Not cheap - right?

But for custom made shoes?

Worth every penny.

I just have to start saving my pennies to get something fabulous!

I think this now qualifies as an "If I Had A Million Dollars" post.....

If I had a million dollars

This isn't really a "million dollars" post.
It's just something I want.

Ever since I watched "Friends with Benefits" on the weekend I've been crunching on Mila Kunis' wardrobe in the movie.
You have to love the internet sometimes.
You see/hear/taste something you like one random evening
and you look it up and have anything you could ever want to know about it at your fingertips in an instant.

I also know that while I could buy many of the items  that she wore in the movie that have been identified by the blog world,
I also know that I would need to do intense training for a psychotic ballet movie in order to look like she did in said outifts.

Just sayin'.

So I did what I always do - look to the accessories.
Because accessories always fit!

This necklace:

It's called
" The Bolt"
and it was designed by

Maybe an early birthday present for myself?

If I had a million dollars...

If I had a million dollars I would buy this pink couch.
I don't know how much it costs but I'm assuming that since the price wasn't even listed on the website (Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams)
but I'm guessing my cool million would cover it.

See that gold pig in the photo below?
I would also buy it.

 It's a $220 pig bank
that holds $10,000 in dollar bills.

That's a big pig.
Maybe I'll have that left over after I buy my couch.

If I had a million dollars...

I love Anthropologie.
I know the clothes are overpriced
but I love the whimsy of it all
the fabrics,
the names of the clothes,
the whole kit and kaboodle.

If I had a million today, here are a few of the picks I would choose:

Across the Land Dress
$168

Mompos Dress
$228

Fictional Clutch
$79.95

Caning Clutch
$59.95

Cultivation Skirt
$68.00

Sigh....

If I had a million dollars...

I haven't done one of these posts in awhile.
I haven't been very "dreamy" lately
just trying to get through the days
and get some rest inbetween
(It's a dire existence, I know. Mostly driven by ghastly "spring" weather. It's killing me, this weather.)

Anyway - I walked by the Ports 1961 store last week and sighed at the creations in the window.
Because if I had a million dollars, I'd go shopping!

I don't know how much anything is but I know I can't afford it.
That's why I need the million dollars!
By the way, I read in the paper one morning last week that a janitor won $16 million dollars. He has a bunch of kids and works 7 days a week to make ends meet.
I'm glad he won.
Just seeing his sweet, happy face in the paper made me happy.

But now - on to my dream!

(just focus on the clothes. The model is a bit...odd)

I also realize that I would need a different life in which to wear these clothes but hey, one thing at a time.

If I had a million dollars...

I want this.
I was just going to post this as an I Love Art post
but then I realized that I can't afford it

so here it is.

He's done a whole series of the same spot of beach.

I love this one too.

love the mist

I also love 20x200.

Does anyone want to give me $50? Or $5,000?

Because you can get them in a 60 x 50 size....

March 19, 2011

if I had a million dollars...

what is it about boots?

Frye

I actually had a pair of boots a lot like these back in 1992.

Does that make me cool?
No.

But it would be if I still had them.

They were too small.

I had to put plastic bags over my feet to slide into them.

It was horribly embarrassing.

There was one night I went over to the home of a guy I had just started dating
and I had to take them off.

I had to sit down and have him pull them off for me.

This resulted in many hours of ridicule.

But I loved those damn boots.

How could you not want to?

If I had a million dollars...

I'm not one much for "labels".
I hate "designer" clothing and accessories that are slathered with logos
and serve only as further advertising for a lable.

I do, however, like good quality.
And while I can't afford to buy high end clothing
I cannot stand a cheap, poorly made purse.

I have a Kenneth Cole bag that I love.
(actually, I have two but this story is about the balck one)

It's a hobo bag that I got at the Bay in a sale bin.
It had clearly been borrowed for a movie or fashion shoot because there was a piece of paper inside it saying it what scene it was for.
There was nary a mark on it
and I got it for just over $100
(pretty good for a $350 bag.)

But it's black.
And I want something pretty for spring/summer.

I am one of those women who carries a lot of stuff in their bag - wallet, makeup bag, planner, umbrella, lunch, camera... the list goes on
(Needless to say, I have impressively strong shoulders.)

I also only like bags that have a single strap.
(Yes, I'm very fussy. It has to be just so.)

As I said, I don't usually go for big labels
but this morning I saw this beauty:

And it looks like it fits the bill.
It's pink!
But - it's $298

I know to some of you, that isn't a lot of $$
but I have to build a fence in the backyard this summer
and get more insulation for my attic

so while less glamourous and fun, that's where my money will be going
(unless something magical happens!)

So that's my little wish for today.
(And it's perfect that it's pink because it's so gray and nasty outside that I need some colour.)

Happy Thursday!

If I had a million dollars...

I would buy this Mongolian Lamb Tote from JCrew.

why? you wonder?

because it's ridiculous
and we all need a little ridiculous in our lives.

It's also on sale!
$549.00

If I had a million dollars...

I would quit my job.

no foolin'.

don't worry. I know a million dollars doesn't go as far as it used to. I'd get a money manager or something.

Live off the interest.

It would be better than this.
