catastrophe

I love Halloween
and I haven't been shy about declaring that love.
But I draw the line at costumes for pets.

Look at that face!
He's pleading for help.

These dogs all look the same!
Is it the breed?
The shame?

And then there's the cats...

Our cats would flay us if we tried this.
No joke.
Flay us alive.
Note that the cats don't look ashamed,
they just look like they are planning revenge.

goblins

Little Orphan Annie’s come to my house to stay.
To wash the cups and saucers up and brush the crumbs away.
To shoo the chickens from the porch and dust the hearth and sweep,
and make the fire and bake the bread to earn her board and keep.
While all us other children, when the supper things is done,
we sit around the kitchen fire and has the mostest fun,
a listening to the witch tales that Annie tells about
and the goblins will get ya if ya don’t watch out!

Once there was a little boy who wouldn’t say his prayers,
and when he went to bed at night away up stairs,
his mammy heard him holler and his daddy heard him bawl,
and when they turned the covers down, he wasn’t there at all!
They searched him in the attic room and cubby hole and press
and even up the chimney flu and every wheres, I guess,
but all they ever found of him was just his pants and round-abouts
and the goblins will get ya if ya don’t watch out!!

Once there was a little girl who always laughed and grinned
and made fun of everyone, of all her blood and kin,
and once when there was company and old folks was there,
she mocked them and she shocked them and said, she didn’t care.
And just as she turned on her heels to go and run and hide,
there was two great big black things a standing by her side.
They snatched her through the ceiling fore she knew what shes about,
and the goblins will get ya if ya don’t watch out!!

When the night is dark and scary, and the moon is full
and creatures are a flying and the wind goes Whoooooooooo,
you better mind your parents and your teachers fond and dear,
and cherish them that loves ya, and dry the orphans tears
and help the poor and needy ones that cluster all about,
or the goblins will get ya if ya don’t watch out!!

it's a scream

In honour of Halloween
I thought I'd share some photos that had me in stitches.

They are from the Nightmares Fear Factory in Niagara Falls.
I think this one is the best

This guy is so out of there....

It begs the question
why do we do this to ourselves?

I would totally be one of these people.

Are you ready for Halloween?

Happy Halloween!

These are last year's pumpkins.

I haven't photographed this year's decorations yet.

Happy Halloween!

I may have mentioned this before, but

this is my favorite holiday.

I love Halloween.
It's spooky.
There are fun decorations.
Costumes.

And lots of candy.

What more could you want?
(presents, maybe, I suppose....)

We had a little party on Saturday.

I dressed up as this gal:

I attached a crow to my head. It was pretty good.
I still have fake blood under my nails
(that stuff is hard to get off!)
I spent most of Friday night and Saturday decorating and am mostly pleased but I realized last night that the house isn't particularly scary. I think I need to amp it up a little before dark.
I'll think of something....
Howling wolves?
Clinking chains?

I think they are in order.

Tonight the kidlets come around.
Hopefully there will be enough of them to give away all the candy
I haven't worked out in over a week and the mini chocolate bars aren't helping any.

More to come!

murder of crows

I would kill for some of these...

does anyone know where I can get some?

I'm going to try Malabar's tomorrow.

I went to Michael's tonight and realized I was about 2 month late for this kind of thing.
Their Halloween stuff is totally picked over and not a crow to be found.

So what did I do?
I started to try to figure out how to make my own.
Just typing that right now give me giggles galore.
It was an epic fail.

Don't worry.
I took photos.
I'll upload them tomorrow.

You know it's bad when your cat is watching you do something and even he cocks his head to the side as if to say
"Wha?"

Yup.
Time and money well spent.
Does anyone know Michael's return policy?
Because the $45 in black feathers and styrofoam balls I bought are going back.

Why do I do this to myself?
At least it gave me a laugh.

Only 54 days until Halloween!

Halloween Spookiness...

I think that my friends (and spouse) have seen a whole new side of me this Halloween...

I may have gone a little overboard with the decorations...

but overall, I think it was a success...

Who is that in the upstairs window?

Why it's the master of suspense himself!

I had a lot of fun doing the decorations....
It was a labour of love
but I do think my loved ones think I'm  bit crazy.

In the end we got about 30 trick-or-treaters

Which means we have enough dots, tootsie rolls and rockets to last us into the new year.
Clearly Fergus wasn't impressed with the candy selection.

Hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween!
(and warm! damn is it ever cold outside!)

Now I"m trying to download The Walking Dead (new show about zombies)
because what would Halloween be without a little scary?
(Oh and I'm waiting to see if the troubled teens come around and kick my pumpkins.
The little monkeys.)

Howl

this week has been nutty.

truly.

I feel like I've been running hither and fro and getting nowhere (that's not entirely true - I went to the chiropractor and he fixed my wonky back and I bought a sparkly (I mean, REALLY sparkly) sweater at Joe Fresh, had choir rehearsal and drinks and dinner with a new friend from out of town.)
Oh and I've started decorating the house but still have lots to do....

I had a stroke of genius too - I found a perfect silhouette to put in my window(more on that later!)

I'm also hitting Canadian Tire after work for some bat lights and a strobe light that plays scary sounds...

I just hope I don't run out of time! We're having friends over tomorrow to carve pumpkins and I have so much to do!

Will post pictures soon!!

Happy Halloween!

Weekend Happenings...

On Saturday we drove to Port Hope in hopes of finding some interesting things.
We were kind of disappointed!
There used to be some great antique shops
and other points of interest
but it seemed like it had changed.
We were a little disappointed.

Later in the day, we met friends for dinner and then hit the Phantom Farm
We stood in the rain for over an hour to get in and, sadly, it was a little disappointing too.

There was one "prop" that stood out, however. It was particularly vile - a severed head with the spinal cord still attached.
The spinal cord moves.
It's really gross.

On Sunday morning, our friends showed up with a housewarming present:

They found said gross head at the flea market in Pickering
so they bought it for us
and drove all the way from Pickering to deliver it!

Tonight, I start decorating for Halloween
(I know! I've been talking about it for weeks and yet,
all I have to show for it is two pumpkins sitting on my front step. Scary.)

But tonight is the night.
The decorating begins.
Last night I downloaded a bunch of scary music
(Bach's Toccata and Fugue, Greig, Halloween movie theme)
that I plan on playing to scary the kiddies.

I'm also going to do something like this:

I love the idea of creepy shadows in the windows.
Of course, I am quickly running out of time
and the rest of my week is looking mighty busy.
I was a t work for 11 1/2 hours today.
It's not good.

Phantom Farm Fun!

Next weekend we're heading to the Phantom Farm, near Port Hope.
We've been a few times before and it's a total hoot!
If you like scary stuff - check it out!

Photos to come!

Martha

I picked this up yesterday so I can start my plans for my favorite holiday of the year...
HALLOWEEN!
(I may have mentioned this before perhaps?)

I've found some good ideas so far!

September 03, 2010

i love candy corn

i love Halloween.
I have to say - it might even be my favorite holiday of the year.

This year will be different.
This year
I have a house.
and I live in a neighbourhood chock-a-block with kiddies.
So that means:
trick or treaters.

This fills me with giddy excitement.
I will be one of the good houses.

You know what I mean.
I'll have the good treats
the scary music and multiple jack o lanterns.
It will be fantastic.
(I'm already planning my trip to Buffalo to go to the mecca of Halloween decorations: Target.)

In the meantime, I have this to hold me over:

I love Philosophy body wash.
I usually use Cinnamon Buns because it smells like butter and cinnamon and sugar and that is the way to start your day.
But I was at Sephora this week and I saw this one
and I knew I had to have it.

So until the monsters and goblins come out
I have sweet smelling goodness to tide me over.

Only 58 days to go!
